This was a wonderful , and fun challenge this week . With atomic number 10 being the “ in ” vesture course for the summertime this was the gross clip to do the blacklight challenge . I aquired the assistance of my beautiful wife and she enjoy the chance to not only facilitate , but to pass the weekend together . We bulge out on Thursday by hit our local shopping mall and party supply stores and end up with quite a few items . We continued every mean solar day by going out and finding more and more material and perchance go a short overboard , but we really had playfulness doing this . Everything you see in the picture was buy within the time material body of this challenge being turn , except for the backdrop and the shades … . and the wife . I know the point may have been to paint the soundbox of a soul , like the television , and I did , but with all the accessories it became garbled . Ok , it is warp , but even more than it is , I swear . I begin Saturday first light by find stencils of butterflys , stars , flowers , and other feminin objects and size them in photoshop , impress them out , cut them exquisitely with an exacto knife and used them to paint impermanent tatoos all over her body . I airbrush her entire body with blue and purple neon pigment because it does n’t glow as raspingly as the other colors , but I ran out with only her facial expression and neck opening left . The bright yellow I opt clash badly with the more subtle vividness , but it ended up as a sound drill run for Sunday .
This fourth dimension , I airbrushed her entire body in purple – from question to foot – to make it shine , but to also pop it off from the more brightly lit clothing . She merit citation for enduring the 105 level heating of the garage as I airbrushed her , and then the 72 degree air conditioning / fan spoil on her to get her skin dry . She almost freeze her painted nipp … never mind . Anyways , after that , it was just just getting her enclothe in several layers of trashy clothes , throwing glitter on the disastrous backdrop , and taking slews of pictures in a darkly light way . All this , and then franticly clean up to go to a family BBQ afterwards . We are going to be cleaning up this mass for the respite of the workweek , but you know what , it was deserving it . Mabey we ’ll do this again for fun , and I ’ll get to utilize the stencil I pain - stakingly cut out .

I hang two 48″ blacklights vertically from the roof on either side of the backdrop . My model is wearing ( in society of how we put them on ) fishnet tights , human knee gamy thermionic tube socks , thong panties , pinkish bandeau , white mesh tank - top , mesh wristies , apparent white masquerade party with painted lips , pink sunglasses , pinkish wigging ( that beam orange ) , white beret , yellow flower clipped to the wig , pink and purple tomentum extensions , bangle , glow - stick necklace , gleam - stick bracelets , neon scarf joint , and a house of cards hit man . I only advert this to show how much labor was involved in putting this together and it was so hard to break up the blastoff I liked the full . I ’m still not certain but I have to take something . I ’ll be interested to see what others come up with this challenge .

So , last , not taking all my Halloween stuff down and put it up pays off . I keep a blacklight mounted on the ceiling of my service department or else of take it down and storing it . So all I had to do to prepare for this was to plug it it and call on it on , and hang a background , which I pick out a contraband tack for to focus more on the subjects . We land a lot of stuff out to see what would burn under the blacklight . Surprizingly , greenish and yellow playdoh radiate . So does petroleum jelly . Same go for yellow highlighter . My two sons posed for me , using playdoh and glow in the dark-skinned makeup . We shot over 60 scene . The backbreaking part was that the exposure sentence of 4 seconds makes it hard to hold still enough for a acute focal point . I divulge out my tripod , and also got out my large reflector , with the white one glowing nicely to bestow some ambient illumination . Lauren was painted with rubber-base paint body rouge and UV makeup , with an intricate paisley purpose using her skin color as the base . No instinctive ignitor was used so that the Lauren ’s cutis would blend in with the black backcloth , and the rule would bring forth lightheaded trails that float through 3D outer space as the example moved towards the camera .
The image itself is intended to illustrate the feeling of an out - of - consistency experience . Three images were place together in a triptych , to show a progression as she begin to feel a disconnect from her strong-arm self , severalize from her consistence , and floats up above herself .
I have worked with blacklights on a few projects ; previously I produced a short film made of over 7,000 still figure of speech of actors in blacklight costumes and light paintings .

I took the photo using my Nikon D90 on a tripod at ISO 400 , 42 mm focal length , f/4.5 and 0.3s shutter speed . The lens is a Nikon 18 - 200 mm with a UV filter . The only lighting is from the smuggled light go under up behind the photographic camera .

I had a couple infant friends aid me out with this challenge . One did the picture / tear supporter , while the other was my model . I used a smaller light further back tv camera left for the paint highlights . I also used a larger light directly behind a Neewer 5 - in-1 disc using the translucent phonograph recording .
