‘ Because you’re able to ’ has long been the principle of hatful climber , but it also works pretty well for Robbie Maddison , who used a tricked - out dirtbike to surf waves in Tahiti .
Maddison ’s bike uses small skis to provide enough floatation while moving , and the tread on the rear wheel is enough to drive the bike onwards ( the same affair that lets snowmobilers drive across water , if they ’re going tight enough ) .
It ’s definitely nerveless as a one - off stunt ( and the filmography is jaw - droppingly good ) , but I ’m hoping it does n’t catch on as a mutation . Jetskis are already annoying enough .
