We all have been lose in the myriad recursive hell of customer backup numbers , waiting forever , blab out with people we ca n’t scantily understand , attempt to solve a trouble . It ’s not only us , mere mortals . notable people like Steve Wozniak also suffer it . He sent us his 4 - hour incubus with AT&T.—JD
A few calendar month ago my four Verizon land furrow speech sound job interchange to AT&T charge . I ’m not sure how or why . I have some approximation that include my getting fooled by some delivery but I do n’t retrieve it . It ’s strange but my AT&T lines may have been switched to some mobile nation line of products category .
A couple of weeks ago I decided to sink ONE of my four land line phone numbers . To do so I had to be ‘ verify ’ , as in 2 - step check . Out of the four lines I had , only one had worked for the last 10 years . AT&T could only verify me on my ‘ primary ’ line , which did n’t work . So a telephone company can only use one of my four earphone lines for confirmation because that ’s how their [ computer ] system lick . The only resolution AT&T offered me was to transmit me a verification forms via report mail . I had to depart on a slip and when I returned I was able to utilize the composition mail verification to complete my account change ( drop one pedigree ) .
Here are the four numbers I ’ve had here for over 20 years :
xxx - xxx-4444 ( ‘ elemental ’ telephone number that the invoice is under )
xxx - xxx-6666
xxx - xxx-8888
xxx - xxx-5555 ( the telephone number I no longer want )
I had format to drop xxx-5555 a match of calendar week ago but was told that it would n’t go through until I completed the [ 2 - step ] confirmation via paper mail . I also had arranged to make xxx-6666 the elemental number , since it ’s the one working personal line of credit that I really use oftentimes for league call . Do n’t bother shout out it as it is only used for extroverted cry .
I do n’t opine the bread and butter guy who helped me 2 calendar week ago infer English very well .
Today I logged into my account and saw that xxx-5555 had not been drop but that AT&T had somehow add a number , xxx-6666 , to my story without any request from me for it .
Here get the kicker .
Today , to delete one argumentation ( now two lines ) I drop four hour talking to multiple hoi polloi on maybe eight dissimilar 800 numbers , for about 40 minute each . They kept being ineffectual to verify that I was an AT&T customer , despite the fact that I had been getting paper bills from AT&T for maybe the last 6 months , now paperless , with auto - wage . My online account intelligibly shows regular charge and payments and phone lines . Most of these funding guys had a heavy Native American accent that I could barely translate .
I was completely patient except that when the ‘ next ’ cat used the identical line of gab about “ I will be able-bodied to work it for you , ” I finally got in the habit of saying “ no , you wo n’t . ” 40 minutes later , after the same steps and spiel , they would gibe with me , and then buy the farm me on to the next documentation line ( another 800 identification number ) which they claim was the ‘ right ’ one . I get a couple of English speakers near the end when one Indian support mortal found one of my numbers in some ( archived ? ) place and say that it was a business pipeline .
I had a doctor ’s engagement and had to leave from my 4 60 minutes earphone marathon with nothing achieve , with nobody in AT&T being able-bodied to find any grounds of my existence . I had pay back precisely nowhere . Oh , they asked for my contact number and said that they ’d call me back but that call never came .
The Comcast customer , whose audio recording live viral , did n’t expend four hours on the headphone without Comcast even being able to identify him as a client . And finally that Comcast customer got some relief as I recall .
All I wanted was to delete a individual phone number .
