The long lunar occultation of the 21st one C will start today at 3:30 p.m. and last until 5:15 p.m. EST ( 12:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. PST ) . The synodic month wo n’t uprise in North America until after the occultation is over , so no one in North America will be able to see it , except for some folks in the Caribbean ( Puerto Rico include ) and Newfoundland , who will catch the remnant of the spectacle at moonrise .
This eclipse is just a few minutes diffident of the long lunar eclipse possible . It ’s the foresightful lunar occultation of the one C , but there was a longer one in2000 , so it really depends on what your definition of “ century ” is ( technically , the 21st centuryis definedas 2001 to 2100 ) .
Here ’s a live feed from timeanddate.com that will begin at 2 p.m. EST.Sloohand theVirtual Telescope Projectwill also offer feeds from several telescope around the world .

And please do n’t call it a “ rake Moon ” as if it were some kind of nervous Sultanate of Oman . It ’s 2018 , and we all know what a lunar eclipse is .
Still , any reason is a good reason tolook at the Moon , even if it ’s just on a webcast .
