An Illinois judge who drew condemnation for reversing a man’s rape conviction in 2022 has now been removed from the bench.
The Illinois Courts Commission removed Adams County Judge Robert Adrian in a decision last Friday after a three-day hearing was held last November, following a complaint that was filed against him.

Adrian had originally convicted Clinton of sexual assault and was supposed to hand down a four-year prison sentence. But the judge’s sudden decision to throw out Clinton’s rape conviction — while reprimanding the victim and her family — drew outrage in Adams County.
The judge then reprimanded the victim and her family, saying, “this is what happens whenever parents allow teenagers to drink alcohol, to swim in pools with their undergarments on.”
Cameron Vaughn, the teenage girl who came forward and identified herself as the victim, toldThe Associated Pressthat Adrian’s reversal left her “completely shocked” in 2022.

“I immediately had to leave the courtroom and go to the bathroom. I was crying,” she told WGEM.
Vaughn’s father Scott told the outlet his daughter was an honor roll student and involved in multiple school sports prior to the 2021 incident.
“Now, she’s lucky to carry a C average and she’s dropped out of all sports,” he said.
“I’m so unbelievably happy right now,” Vaughn said. “He can’t hurt anybody else. He can’t ruin anyone else’s life.”
