“… What do you do, say, if someone decides to make a comedy special full of lies and unwarranted insults? You love them as God does, and you say to yourself when people hurt that it could be they believe they will feel better if they lash out,” writes Jada. “Can I honestly say I’ve never been there? The answer is no. And that’s where compassion and well-wishing come in.”
Jada — who goesin depth about the 2022 Oscars incidentwhere husbandWill Smithsmacked Rock in the face — writes that Rock had “hurt my feelings in the past” and “although I wanted to hold on to my resentments, I’d learned that would hurt me more than him.”
She adds that Rock “deserves my concern and my consideration despite how he may decide to drag me on stages. That’s his issue, not mine. From spirit to spirit, he is my brother….”
Selective Outrage, which was filmed in Jada’s hometown of Baltimore, marked the first time Rock publicly addressed the incident. Will, who has since apologized, was banned from Academy events for 10 years.

“Everybody that really knows knows I had nothing to do with that s—. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements,’ " Rock, 58, said in his comedy special. He called Will, 55, a “bitch” multiple times in the special and ranted about Jada, referencing their clashing over the 2016 Oscars.
“I did some jokes about her. Who gives a f—? That’s how it is: She starts it, I finish it,” Rock said at the time in the comedy special. “That’s what the f— happened. Nobody’s pickin' on this bitch. She started this s—. Nobody was pickin' on her.”
A source told PEOPLE back in March afterSelective Outrage:“Jada has had no part in all of this otherthan being heckled. Chris is obsessed with her and that’s been going on for almost 30 years.”

Jada reacted to the Emmy-nominated comedy special in a recent interview withThe New York Times, saying, “I remember my heart piercing, my heart cracking, and Iremember my feelings being so hurt. And then I remember being able to smile and wish him well at the same time.”
She told PEOPLE shehasn’t spoken to Rock since the Oscars incident, but revealed he approached her at the edge of the stage during a pause in the broadcast directly after the slap.

“Chris came down to the end of the stage and tried to apologize to me. He said, ‘I didn’t mean you any harm.’ I said, ‘I can’t talk about this now, Chris. This is some old s—.’ I thought this was [about] the Oscar 2016 and … their stuff that they had before I even came into the picture in the late ‘80s. I’ve got to leave that to Will and Chris to talk about, but they got their stuff for sure.”
