A Kentucky momwhose four limbs were amputatedfollowing complications from a kidney stone has started her road to recovery.
The mom of two had her legs and arms amputated after she suffered from an infected kidney stone, according to Lexington, Kentucky’sWLEX.
But the first day of therapy went well, according to the GoFundMe.
“She had a great first day of therapy! She was so excited and did so well. Keep the prayers coming!” her sister Luci wrote, sharing a photo of Mullins grinning as she chatted with hospital staff.

It was also an exhausting day, as another photo showed Mullins sleeping in her hospital bed.
“I’m not sure but I think the first day of therapy has kicked her butt,” the caption good-naturedly read. “She was so excited and did so well. I hope tomorrow is even better than today was.”
Mullins, a long-time nurse, has adopted a pragmatic approach when it comes to accepting her life-changing surgeries.
“I just said, ‘These are the cards I’ve been dealt and these are the hands I’m going to play,’” she told WLEX, which noted she reacted to the news in a surprisingly calm manner.
The quadruple amputation was the result of a “perfect storm” resulting from a kidney stone she had a few weeks ago.
“The doctor I used to work with, he kind of was like, ‘This is what they had to do to save your life. This is what’s happened,’ ” Mullins told the outlet.
Sepsis, according to theMayo Clinic, is when the body responds improperly to an infection, which can ‘damage the lungs, kidneys, liver and other organs.”

She was then transported from a hospital in Stanford to one in Lexington, where she was sedated for days.
After waking up, Mullins learned she would have to lose all four of her limbs.
“I’m just so happy to be alive,” added Mullins, a mother of two. “I get to see my kids. I get to see my family. I get to have my time with my husband. Those are minor things at this point.”
As the GoFundMe noted, her younger son, Easton, was able to visit his mom in the hospital and even helped feed her dinner.

The family continues to raise money on its GoFundMe, to help pay for “adjustments” to her home, as well as provide “prosthetics and adaptive equipment," so far raising over $180,000 of its $250,000 goal.
“Slow down. Appreciate the things around you, especially your family,” Mullins told WLEX of how she is approaching life now. “It’s okay to let people take care of you.”
