Kurt CobainandCourtney Love’s marriage may have been the subject of tabloid fodder in the ’90s, but not everything about the rock royalty’s relationship has been uncovered.
For the first time ever, fans will be able to see previously never-before-published photographs of theNirvanafrontman, theHolefrontwoman and their daughter,Frances Bean Cobain, as an all-new photo book is due for release on June 4.
According to powerHouse Books, originally only five images from the photoshoot appeared in the December 1992 issue of the magazine, and one more ran inRolling Stoneupon Cobain’s death in 1994.

The photoshoot, which was conducted in September 1992 at the couple’s home in Los Angeles' Hollywood Heights neighborhood, became instantly iconic upon its release and is still remembered today for its intimate, candid shots of the couple in bed and with their daughter.
The spread has become known as the “Family Values” shoot, as Cobain wrote the words on Love’s stomach and it was intended to rewrite the narrative around their marriage. At the time, the two musicians were dealing with addiction issues and battling for custody of then one-month-old Frances Bean at the time.

Guzmanspoke to CNNabout the upcoming book, which was conceived after the two visual artists featured the rare photos in a gallery exhibition.
The photographers explained that their original vision for the shoot was to have the couple “doing domestic chores,” but quickly altered their plans as soon as they arrived at their home and Cobain was still in bed.
Peacock told the outlet, “Thirty years later, we thought, well maybe that was the whole plan all along. Because he was wearing this fancy robe, and that’s not something he would ever wear normally.”

Guzman revealed that him being in bed ended up creating “vulnerable” shots, and when they introduced Frances Bean into the shoot, her presence “made him more open.”

Cobain and Love, now 59, began dating in 1991 and were married in February 1992. Later that year in August, the two musicianswelcomed their only child together, Frances Bean, now 31.
