Mark Hamillis no unknown to sound throw out of kilter villains , but buff were still shocked to pick up the intelligence that he has been cast as the voice Chucky in the newChild ’s Playreboot . The originalChild ’s Playarrived in theaters in 1988 ; more than 30 years later , Chucky is still at it , with multiple sequel and even a full reboot coming later this year . The new film will compensate court to the original series , but will also introduce new look . Although it has already faced a bit of backlash , ComicBook.comreportsthat at least one fellow member of the original squad — managing director Tom Holland — had only good things to say about Hamill ’s casting .
However , Holland ’s posture toward the remaking does n’t quite jive with Don Mancini’s — the scribe who wrote everyChild ’s Playmovie apart from the reboot .
“ MGM retained the right to the first movie , so they ’re bring up that , ” Manciniexplainedon the Post Mortem With Mick Garris podcast in December . “ They asked David Kirschner and I if we want to be executive producers . We enjoin no thank you , because we have our ongoing thriving business with Chucky . manifestly my impression were spite . Even though they did n’t get theatrical releases , they were well regard . And I did make the character and nurture the franchise for three f***king decennary . ”
The fresh installment is ostensibly switch out Chucky ’s ownership for a more modern approach , with the toy having AI parts that malfunction . TheChild ’s Playreboot will arrive in dramatics on June 21 , 2019 .
