Officials were made aware of the hulk ’s comportment on the beach by a local gentleman’s gentleman named Patrick Gallagher , who first find the whale via webcam footage of Taieri Mouth as he was prepping to go out for a breaker .

This latest specimen was fairly new , meaning scientist may be able to break down it for the first time .

As part of their enquiry , the DOC said they will be working with members of New Zealand ’s endemic groups , who consider the hulk to be a taoka , or treasure , of ethnical significance .
